BWI Airport Parking: Already Difficult

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, more commonly known as BWI airport, has an overstuffed name and a BWI airport parking situation to match. If you visit the airport’s website, you will notice a short and subtle disclaimer in the BWI airport parking section that states, “Parking rates are subject to change. Parking lots or garages may become filled and close. Patrons may have to park at other available lots at posted rates.” If you cannot know beforehand whether or not you have the space in the parking lot that most suits your needs at a rate that most suits your wallet, BWI airport parking suddenly becomes a jeopardizing issue rather than a convenient service.

In its latest round of renovations, the airport renamed itself the aforementioned lengthy title, but the airport neglected to do much to expand BWI airport parking. The parking lot with the closest proximity to the terminals is the hourly garage. Unfortunately, the rates at this lot max out at $20 per day, which may not be very cost-effective for a trip longer than a day or two. If you move to the economy lot, however, you must endure a lengthy travel time from parking lot to terminal at a cost that is only a minor break--$8. BWI airport parking can thus become really inconvenient and really expensive really quickly; in order to save money, you have to surrender time.

Located 10 miles south of Baltimore and 30 miles north of D.C., BWI is already somewhat inaccessible to the surrounding residents. Most are driving cars into the airport, creating overcrowded parking garages, and most are driving at least twenty minutes or so to the airport. With that added onto your total travel time, the extra time spent trying to get to the terminals from BWI airport parking might add stress and subtract punctuality.
