Even Small Airports Have Their Problems

Although considered one of the smaller airports in the United States, Bradley International is currently the second busiest airport in New England (after Logan International Airport in Boston), and it will continue to grow with its new international service and addition of numerous restaurants and stores.

Home to the New England Air Museum, Bradley airport attracts aviation fans and frequent New England travelers alike. New Englanders have a new reason to travel through Bradley International; Northwest Airlines recently began non-stop service to Amsterdam, the airport’s first non-stop flight to Europe, which includes many options for connection around the world. In addition to having one of the busiest international airports in the world, Amsterdam maintains its decriminalization of marijuana and rich cultural traditions—a possible draw for many New England travelers. Airport officials say that if this flight does well, other carriers may decide to begin international services as well.

The popularity of this new international flight and other additions to the airport will certainly have an adverse effect on the convenience of Bradley airport parking. When its newest parking garage was finished recently, a regulation resulting from the 9/11 attacks rendered the space unusable because it was not set further back from the airport. When it was open, every vehicle had to be individually inspected. Although Bradley airport parking is not as difficult since the parking garage gained approval from the Department of Homeland Security, there is always the possibility of government regulation for safety. Currently, the airport boasts a short walk to any terminal from Bradley airport parking locations. The time the parking garage was not open, however, seems to have inflated the parking rates for Bradley airport parking. It can cost up to $69 per week for a single vehicle to park in the long-term parking lot and up to $45 in certain economy lots. Although convenient, this may not be the parking rate you had hoped for.
